Privacy Policy for TaskShade
Effective Date: June 16, 2026
Last Updated: June 17, 2026
TaskShade is an Android task management application developed and operated by Drayton Labs. TaskShade is designed with a privacy-first approach. This policy explains how we handle your data in both Local-Only Mode and Cloud Sync Mode.
1. Information We Collect
TaskShade collects only the information necessary to provide task management, reminder, synchronisation and collaboration features.
- Account information: If you choose to sign in with Google, we collect your email address, display name and a unique Google-provided user identifier.
- User content: This includes task titles, notes, checklists, due dates, reminder times and recurrence patterns.
- Collaborator data: If you use sharing features, we collect the email addresses of the individuals you choose to invite as collaborators.
- Diagnostic logs: Technical event data, such as sync success or failure times and service status, is stored locally on your device for troubleshooting. These logs are not automatically transmitted to Drayton Labs. They are only shared if you manually copy and send them for support.
2. Information Storage
Local-Only Mode
If you do not sign in, all task data is stored on your device in TaskShade’s private local database. Drayton Labs does not have access to this local-only data.
Cloud Sync Mode
If you sign in with a Google Account, TaskShade uses Firebase services to provide sync and collaboration features.
- Firebase Firestore: Your tasks, notes, checklists, reminder metadata and collaborator lists may be stored in Firestore to enable cross-device synchronisation and sharing.
- Firebase Authentication: Used to manage your identity securely. TaskShade does not see or store your Google password.
- User discovery: Your email address and display name may be stored in a lookup index so other TaskShade users can invite you as a collaborator. This lookup is protected against bulk listing.
3. Data Sharing and Collaboration
TaskShade does not sell your data to third parties or use your data for advertising.
Sharing occurs only when you choose to use collaboration features.
- Shared tasks: When you add a collaborator to a task, they can see the task title, notes, checklist items, due dates and completion status for that shared task.
- Collaborator information: Active collaborators may see your display name and email address so the sharing relationship can be managed.
4. Third-Party Services
TaskShade uses the following third-party services provided by Google:
- Google Play Services: Used for Google Sign-In and Android platform functionality.
- Firebase Authentication: Used for account sign-in.
- Firebase Firestore: Used for optional cloud sync and collaboration.
- Android backup services: Depending on your device settings, local app data may be included in Android’s backup services provided by Google.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
- On-device data: You can delete individual tasks or clear app data from your device settings.
- Cloud data: Deleting a task while signed in will remove it from cloud sync where applicable.
- Account data deletion: You may request deletion of cloud-synchronised data by contacting Drayton Labs. We will take reasonable steps to remove your data from our Firebase-hosted services.
- CSV export: You can export your task data to CSV from within the app.
6. Security
We protect your data using:
- Encryption in transit: Data sent to Firebase is transmitted using HTTPS/TLS.
- Firestore security rules: Access to cloud data is restricted to the account owner and authorised collaborators.
- Android app sandboxing: Local app storage is protected by Android’s standard private app storage model.
7. Children’s Privacy
TaskShade is not directed at children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate steps.
8. International and Australian Privacy Considerations
TaskShade is designed to align with the principles of the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles. Users in the European Economic Area may have rights relating to access, correction, deletion and data portability.
9. Lawful Use
Users are responsible for the content they create and share using TaskShade. TaskShade is provided as a productivity tool and must not be used for unlawful purposes.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy occasionally. We will update the effective date or last updated date when changes are made.
